This Summer (2016) …

This summer (2016) Trailsystem will once again provide guided mountain walks to some of the most famous peaks of the Pirin. The walks are being  lead by Peter and Jacqui Lister.

Peter is a UK qualified Mountain Leader.  Between them he and Jacqui have spent most of the last 10 summers exploring the Pirin.

Load your camera’s battery and prepare for the stunning views your feet will take you to. 


Bezbog is one of the emblematic peaks of Pirin mountain. It is situated just above the Dobrinishte ski resort. There is a chair lift from Gotze Delchev hut to Bezbog hut and Bezbog Lake where the walk to Bezbog peak and Polejan peak starts

26/07/2016We will ascent either Bezbog (2645m) or Polejan peak (2851m) depending on the group. 

There is a chair lift from Gotze Delchev hut to Bezbog hut and Bezbog Lake where both walks start.

These are medium grade walks of around 6 to 8hrs duration, suitable for those with a good level of fitness who are capable of sustained ascents and descents.

Vihren peak is the highest point in the region, so if you would like to see what the surrounding world looks like from above, you will have to make the effort and get up there.

This is the highest point in the region, so if you would like to see what the surrounding world looks like from that height, you will have to make the effort and get up there. 

The route we take is via the Northern face of Vihren. It’s an adventurous demanding route of around 10hrs duration. Be prepared, you might need to use your hands.  But it’s worth it!

02,03 & 04/08/2016  –  Gotze Delchev Hut to Melnik

Day 1– Gotze Delchev Hut to Pirin Hut (about 6hrs)

Starting from the Gotze Delchev hut, we will ascend to Bezbog hut using the chair lift, then walk from the Alpine zone, passing mountain lakes and through Polyanna’s, into the forested area to overnight at the Pirin hut.

Day 2 – Pirin Hut to Melnik  (about 9hrs)

From Pirin hut we will walk through the forested zone to Rojen where we will stop for lunch at a Mehana before climbing to visit the monastery.

Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria situated in the South part of Pirin mountain. Almost every family in Melnik has their own vineyard and produces excellent wine

From there we pass through a landscape dominated by Sandstone pyramids before coming into Melnik visa a dry river bed. Once in Melnik we’ll stay overnight in a small hotel.

Day 3 – Melnik to Bansko

The morning is free for you to visit the wineries, museums or mehana’s before transferring back to Bansko via the southern and more scenic route through Gotse Delchev.

This walk is sustained walk suitable for people with a good level of fitness and the ability to carry their own kit.


What you’ll need :

Day walks –  Suitable footwear such as walking boots or shoes.

Spare warm clothing, including a hat and gloves (it can get cold on the mountain tops). Waterproof jacket.

Personal first aid kit and any prescribed medication.

Lunch, snacks and drinks (min 1ltr).

Sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses and camera.

A rucksack to carry it all in.

Gotse Delchev walks – Money for the chairlift (about 12Lv p/p)

Both walks, getting to the start point. We can arrange this for you.

Melnik walk –    All of the above plus refillable drinks container.  

Some more snacks  for day 2. Overnight wear. Clean socks and underwear. Toiletries.        

 Change of clothes for Melnik if you want.  

All of the walks are done at ‘talking pace’, there will be plenty of stops with the opportunity to take pics.  

What’s the cost –  Trailsystem is a not for profit organisation. The services of Peter and Jacqui are free.   

For the Melnik walk we ask for you to cover the cost of overnight accommodation, evening meal and breakfast at the hut, overnight accommodation and breakfast in Melnik and the transport back to Bansko. We’re working on this at the moment and will add it to the page as soon as it’s done.
What’s not included in this is the chair lift to Bezbog (about 12Lv p/p), lunch in Rojen, evening meal in Melnik, drinks at both Pirin hut and in Melnik. 

 For all the walks you will need to get to the start points, we can arrange this if needed.

We’ll ask you to complete a basic questionnaire about your experience, fitness and that you tell us about any medical issues of which we should be aware (you can do this in confidence directly to Peter or Jacqui if you wish).

Please be aware accommodation in mountain huts is basic and we may have to share a room. Linen is provided and is fresh.
